Bites Nearby: Ring Mountain Creamery Cafe

Warmer weather means it's ice cream season once again and Ring Mountain Creamery is the place to go in Eagan for hand-crafted frozen treats.

Overview: Ring Mountain Creamery Cafe has only been open for a few years, but it quickly has created a buzz and attracted a following. Their popular Scoops for Troops benefit event generally means around-the-block lines.

Décor: This family-owned spot is a casual and clean smaller place sporting a gleaming glass case through which to try (emphasis on try) to choose a flavor. There is outdoor seating for those who like their ice cream al fresco, or guests can stay inside to read a book by the fireplace or play one of the restauant's board games with friends. Free wi-fi and works by local artists add to the sit-a-spell ambiance.

Entrees: Fresh deli sandwiches and wraps as well as soups and salads await those who feel a need to have a meal before enjoying their dessert. For others, the dessert is the meal.

Desserts: See Signature Dish below.

Service: Counter service is quick and friendly and provided by people who obviously love where they work.

Signature Dish: Ring Mountain has consistently won best-of awards for their hand-crafted "100% skimp-free" premium ice cream, sorbet and gelato. That basically means everything that they scoop is their signature dish.

Love it! Ring Mountain has a sampler dish where you can try, I think, 3 or 4 smaller scoops rather than one bigger one. One of my fav's is a chocolate, coconut, roasted almond affair - but I could never say it is my very fav - too many wonderful ones to pick from. Another thing is that they have a picture window into the back room and when they are making a batch of ice cream or gelato you can watch the whole process. Such fun! Thanks for a great review Mary Jo. By the way - I'm just a customer - no vested interest in the business other than loving it.

I visited a dear friend in Apple Valley last week (Aug. 16 - Aug. 21, 2012) and went to Ring Mountain THREE times during my visit! The gelato was the best and I enjoyed it very much. Delicious! 5 stars!!!
