Eagan Man Charged with Beating, Choking Girlfriend
Police were called to the residence by the victim's son, who was hiding in the bedroom during the alleged assault.
An argument between an Eagan man and his girlfriend spiraled out of control when the man beat and repeatedly choked the woman, according to Eagan police.
Youri Devin Walker, 28, faces one felony count of domestic assault by strangulation and two gross misdemeanor counts of domestic assault following the incident, which allegedly occurred on Nov. 2. If convicted on the felony charge, Walker could be sentenced to as much as three years in prison and $5,000 in fines.
Eagan police were called to the victim's home by her son, who told officers that he saw Walker lift the victim off the floor and slam her to the ground during an argument. The boy's mother then told him to dial 911, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Dakota County Sheriff's Office.
While hidden in his room, the boy told police that he heard breaking glass, followed by Walker allegedly stating: "Come into the bathroom where I can slap you around without [the boy] hearing me."
Upon arrival, police spoke to the victim, who said she became upset and threw taco meat at Walker earlier that evening. The woman said Walker grabbed her arms, at which point she "swung" at him. Walker responded by slamming her to the floor, the victim told officers.
The victim also said she struck Walker in the head with a candy bowl. Walker allegedly went into the bathroom, then came back out and choked the victim until she couldn't breathe and was in pain, police say.
Walker has one previous domestic violence conviction.
