Earth Day Events Coming Up This Weekend

Want to get outside and get involved on Earth Day? Here's a list of local Earth Day or nature-related events to help you plan!


  • When/Where:

    Why Go:
    Celebrate Earth Day by joining with the Friends of the Eagan Core Greenway on Saturday April 21 to clean up litter at Patrick Eagan Park. Meet in the main parking lot behind the . This activity will require light exertion to collect litter along the trails in Patrick Eagan Park. It is suitable for children. Bring gloves; garbage bags will be provided. Refreshments will be served after. 

  • When/Where:
    Noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, at in Eagan.
    Why Go:
    Join the park staff of Lebanon Hills Regional Park for a park clean up. All Ages. Registration required.

  • When/Where: 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, at .
    Why Go:
    Learn how to let nature inspire the poet in you during National Poetry Month with award-winning poet Joyce Sidman. A portion of the workshop will be spent outdoors- weather permitting. Supplies provided. A Minnesota Legacy program. Ages 8-12. Registration required.
  • Twig Plant Boxes Class at Dodge Nature Center
    When/Where:
    9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 21 at Dodge Nature Center in Mendota Heights.
    Why Go:
    Design and assemble your own twig plant box to showcase a potted plant or favorite area of your garden. Willow, dogwood, poplar and buckthorn branches and twigs will be provided for this creative venture into twig design. Bring hand pruners, hammers and small hand saws if you have them. Other materials will be provided. Pre-registration is required. Class size is limited, so register early! Recommended for adults. Cost for the class is $35 for non-members or $25 for members.
  • Annual Earth Day Volunteer Event at Dodge Nature Center
    When/Where:
    5:15 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, at Dodge Nature Center in Mendota Heights.
    Why Go:
    Volunteers will arrive at 5:15 p.m. to enjoy a burger or hot dog off the grill and then head out on the grounds for Earth Day activities. Volunteers will remove European buckthorn and other invasive species. Other projects that evening may include litter pick-up, preschool clean-up and garden bed preparation. Volunteers are also encouraged to invite friends, co-workers, and neighbors to become involved with the removal of buckthorn. If you are an individual, group leader, corporate volunteer leader, or want your family to get involved with volunteering, this is a great opportunity.
