Excessive Heat Warning for Eagan Begins Sunday

Dog days of August, indeed: According to the National Weather Service, Eagan and other cities across the Twin Cities metro area are in for a major heat wave.

The NWS has issued an excessive heat warning for Sunday, Aug. 25 through the Tuesday night. Temperatures are expected to be in the 90s during the day, with heat indices of 95 to 107 degrees. High temperatures will only be slightly moderated during the nighttime hours. The NWS predicts nighttime lows in the mid-70s and low 80s.

From the NWS:

Impacts: The hot and humid conditions will lead to a heightened risk of heat related stress and illness, especially for young children and the elderly. Otherwise healthy adults could also be in danger if they are in an indoor space without air conditioning or are participating in strenuous outdoor activities.

Precautionary/preparedness actions: The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible. To avoid heat stroke or heat exhaustion, drink plenty of fluids and stay in an air-conditioned room. If outside, stay out of the sun as much as possible. Residents are also encouraged to check up on relatives and neighbors.
