Funfest Parade Marches On
Veterans, police and firefighters honored as "Hometown Heroes" in annual Fourth of July parade.
Hometown heroes, politicians, princesses and lots of Eagan-area kids took center stage Monday morning in the annual Eagan's July 4th Funfest parade.
The "Hometown Heroes" -- mainly firefighters, police officers and military veterans -- received hearty applause as they passed by.
The politicians and their supporters in the parade, set against a background of a non-working state government, got less applause. Still, nobody caused a scene.

Four of the grand marshals were military veterans: Will Converse, Toni Caponi, Tom Mullon and Richard Carroll. The other grand marshals were Battalion Chief Dave DiIoia of the Eagan Fire Department, Sgt. Tom Schoenecker of the Eagan Police Department, and Rob Olson of Fox 9 News.
Hundreds of area residents, including people from Apple Valley, Burnsville, West St. Paul, Inver Grove Heights, Prior Lake, White Bear Lake, Farmington, Minneapolis, St. Paul and other locations lined the parade route. The marchers started on the west end of Yankee Doodle Road, marched east until they turned north on Central Parkway, and finished at Eagan Central Park.
