'Get Jobs Job Fair' to be Held this Week in Eagan

Over 50 exhibitors will be available to help job seekers search for work.

This year's Get Jobs Job Fair will feature more than 50 exhibitors and will be held at the Eagan Civic Arena this Thursday, March 24 from 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

The Get Jobs Job Fair has been helping job seekers get entry level to professional positions since 2001, according to its press release. The job fair offers job seekers the opportunity to hand-out resumes, network with employers and hopefully land their next job.

"This event is a chance for people who are looking for work to make contacts that could lead to employment," said Mark Phillips, commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) in a press release. "Participants can meet one-on-one with human resource professionals, practice their elevator speeches and interviewing skills, and network with other jobs seekers."

Positively Minnesota (part  of DEED) offered these tips for those individuals looking for a job:

  • Prepare for the Fair with our "Rapid Interviewing Skills for Job Fairs" workshop meeting at the Civic Arena before the job fair. (Please see the attached flyer for more information on registering for this portion.)
  • Make a good first impression.  You will be meeting with potential employers, present yourself as if this were an interview.
  • Come prepared.  Bring resumes, cover letters and other materials that you can leave with exhibitors.
  • Research the companies. Check out the website and become familiar with the exhibitors and what they do.
  • Collect information from each exhibitor you are interested in; find out how the application process works.
  • Be memorable for the right reasons, such as by being organized, prepared, personable and confident.
