Get Out: What to Do Over the New Year's Weekend

Looking for a way to get out of the house on New Year's weekend? Patch has a few ideas.

  • Lebanon Hills New Year's Eve Party
    When/Where:
    5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31 at in Eagan.
    Why Go: The lack of snow means that two of the planned activities—sledding and snowshoeing—most likely won't be possible. But there are plenty of other options for visitors, including two miles of candlelit hiking, live animals, kids activities, a s'mores buffet and a strolling magician. The ball drops on this event at 7:59 p.m.

  • Noon Year's Eve at the Como Zoo
    When/Where:
    10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31 at the Como Zoo at 1225 Estabrook Dr, St. Paul.
    Why Go:
    Rock in the "Zoo"year with your friends at Como. The fun is perfectly fit for the whole family, with live entertainment, crafts, activities, and a countdown to the new year at noon.
    Cost: Free

  • When/Where:
    7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31 at at 1565 Cliff Rd. in Eagan.
    Why Go: Take in some mellow jazz and pop standards with musical duo WindWood while enjoying French cuisine and wines. WindWood features classical guitarist Chris Kachian and Conrad Miska, a multi-instrumentalist jazz musician.
    Cost: Free

  • When/Where:
    8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31 at the Best Western Premier Nicollet Inn in Burnsville.
    Why Go: Get a musical two-for-one when as you listen to funky blues band Root City and the soulful, female-fronted The Devine Collection perform in Burnsville on New Year's Eve.

  • When/Where:
    8 p.m. at the Apple Valley American Legion at 14521 Granada Dr in Apple Valley.
    Why Go: Ring in the New Year at the when you watch an award-winning comedy show from Jeff Gerbino, who has performed on CBS. Gerbino has 25 years of experience as a comedian. Food specials during the show include prime rib, shrimp skewers and whiskey steak.
    Cost: $20 in advance or $25 at the door.
