Halloween Safety Tips and Other Tidbits

The Eagan Police Department has some safety reminders for tonight and the National Retail Federation says business was 'boo'ming this year.

We won’t have to worry about a blizzard like 1991, or even the one that battered the East Coast over the weekend. Tonight’s Halloween forecast calls for seasonally perfect trick-or-treating temperatures.

If you or your little goblins are one of the more than 161 Million people hitting the streets tonight the has a few safety reminders for Halloween.

Drivers are urged to slow down and be aware of trick-or-treaters and reflective tape or glow sticks are encouraged for those walking the neighborhoods in search of their sweet bounty.

  • The National Retail Federation says the 161 Million people celebrating Halloween this year is the most in the last nine years.
  • The average person will spend approximately $72.31 on Halloween this year, up from $66.28 last year.
  • Total Halloween spending is expected to reach $6.86 billion.
  • Halloween decorating is second only to Christmas.
  • Adults spend more on grown-up costumes than on kids’ costumes. This year, adults are expected to buy $1.21 billion worth of adult costumes and $1 billion worth of kids’ costumes.
  • Pet owners will spend $310 million do dress up their furry companions.
