Harvest of Art Kicks Off with Celebration

An outdoor celebration at the Eagan Art House on Sunday kicked off the annual Harvest of Art community art exhibit, which runs through Oct. 26.

What better way to spend a late summer Sunday afternoon than enjoying great art, friendly neighbors, perfect weather and ice cream.

All of these elements were present at the Eagan Art House on Sunday at the Harvest of Art exhibit opening.

Wanda Borman, an Eagan Art House staff member in charge of Harvest of Art, provided an overview of this year’s exhibit. The exhibit features 77 works of art from 39 South of the river artists, including youth and adult categories. Paintings, photography, drawings, sculpture, fiber and 3-D ceramic art pieces are included in the exhibit.

Awards were given in the youth and adult categories. Carolina Tana from Eagan took first place in the adult category. Stephen Reineke, a 12-year-old from Inver Grove Heights, won in the youth category. Both have studied at the Eagan Art House and thanked their instructors for helping them to grow as artists.

Other activities during the opening included a chance for visitors to glaze their own Raku pots and watch the firing process (a crowd favorite), artist demonstrations, a pottery sale, an artist trading card station, and ice cream from Ring Mountain Creamery.

The art will be on display at four different locations throughout the Eagan community from Sept. 5 through Oct. 26: Dunn Bros Coffee, Ring Mountain Creamery, Easter Lutheran Church and the Eagan Community Center.

Dave Ringberg, the owner of Ring Mountain Creamery, said he enjoys having the art on display in his business. People take time to soak up the art, and last year several pieces on display at Ring Mountain sold during the show.
