Local Nonprofits Thankful for Donors Despite GiveMN Website Problems

Though donations were done for a couple Eagan nonprofits, they expressed gratitude to the donors.

The fifth annual Give to the Max Day was interrupted when the GiveMN.org website went down for several hours. Despite the problems, donors gave about $1 million more than last year's total of about $16 million.

However, a couple Eagan nonprofits said that initially it appears that the website problems may have affected donations.

A Caponi Art Park representative said that though they could not say with certainty just how much they were affected, donations were down from last year. By the end of the day Caponi Art Park received about $3,150 in donations, and according to a e-newsletter, 12 new donors.

It was a challenge, said the representative, but overall it was a great day for donations.

Karen Kitchel, president of Cheerful Givers, said that while she expects that the GiveMN.org website issues affected participating nonprofits, she said that they were pleased with the results.

Cheerful Givers received $5,630 in donations, a little less than last year, from 81 donors.

Said Kitchel, "The thing that we want to say is thank you to our donors."
