Moms Talk: Where Should Your Family Volunteer?

In our second installment of Moms Talk on Eagan Patch, we ask where some good locations are for your family to volunteer at?

Moms Talk is a new feature on Eagan Patch that is part of a new initiative to reach out to moms and families. Eagan Patch invites you and your circle of friends to help build a community of support for mothers and their families right here in the Eagan area.

Each week in Moms Talk, our Moms Council will take your questions, give advice and share solutions. Moms, dads, grandparents and the diverse families who make up our community will have a new resource for questions about local schools, pedestrian safety, nutrition, work-life balance and the thousands of other issues that arise while raising children.

Moms Talk will also be the place to drop in for a talk about the latest parenting hot topic. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in as we start the conversation today.

Here's our discussion topic:

Eagan is jam-packed full of nonprofits and different organizations where your family can volunteer at. However, there are some things you should take into consideration when choosing the right organization to volunteer at. According to family.go.com, you will first "want to find an opportunity that suits all of your schedules, ages, skills and personalities. Each family member will have his or her own ideas. Encourage all of your would-be volunteers to get involved in selecting the volunteer opportunity. The more each individual feels he or she has helped make the choice, the more committed everyone will be to making it work."

Here are some other thoughts to consider: Are there places to volunteer at that are more family-friendly than others? Where have families that you know had the most success volunteering at? Do you pick just one place or spread the love and jump from organization-to-organization?
