Pet of the Week: Zeppelin the Hound Chosen as Eagan's Top Dog 2014

City officials honored Zeppelin during the first-ever Streets Alive event.

Every dog has his day, as they say, and Sept. 15, 2013 was Zeppelin's.

That day, Eagan officials announced that the four-year-old bloodhound/Red Bone Coonhound was the city's "Top Dog of 2014." According to a recent report by the Pioneer Press, Zeppelin beat out about 40 other dogs, one of whom has its own Twitter feed.

Here's what Zeppelin's adopted mom has to say about him: "He came to us from the Humane Society. He was frightened to come into our house when we brought him home. He would cry when I left him to go to work and would hold my hand in his mouth with excitement when I came back. It did not take long for him to realize he found his forever home in Eagan. We love it when all of Eagan can hear him bray at a squirrel that he has chased up a tree or another dog walking by. That’s our boy!"

As the "Top Dog," Zeppelin will be the face of the city's dog license brochure. He will also be granted dog license No. 1 for 2014.
