Rahn Elementary Students Use Technology to Support Kiva Projects

Students made videos to convince others to support borrowers from their chosen Kiva project.

Students at Rahn Elementary School of Arts and Technology in Eagan completed a project that allowed them to help others.

The second annual project involved the participation of all 6th grade students at the school. They helped support a project on Kiva, an organization that provides loans to individuals worldwide through microfinance institutions.

Students worked in teams to make a video to convince others to support their chosen Kiva project and to complete a fundraising project, according to a District 191 blog post. Students had to raise at least $25 for their Kiva borrower.

Cara Slattery, enrichment specialist at the school, described in the blog student response to the project: "Students have said they feel more excited about their work when they share what they’ve learned through technology, and that positive feedback about the project is inspiring them to be more active in community service projects."
