Snow Covers Eagan, Metro Area, Causes Problems for MVTA Bus Services

Snow expected to continue to fall into the night

Snow began falling Sunday morning, and is scheduled to continue throughout the night and into Monday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), "Snowfall rates of two to three inches per hour are possible...with 10 inches of snowfall across the southern metro."

Eagan and the southern portion of Minnesota remains under a winter storm warning until noon Monday, NWS reports.

Snow is expected to continue tonight, but the snowfall rates should taper off after midnight and toward the morning hours, NWS said. 

NWS added, "This blast of winter weather is due to a strong low pressure area moving from western Iowa this evening and into northern Illinois by morning."

Also, according to Robin Selvig, Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA customer relations manager, "As of 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, MVTA bus service has been suspended due to blowing snow and road conditions. Buses are unable to negotiate the many accidents on Cedar Avenue. Buses are expected to operate a full schedule on Monday, but there may be delays if conditions continue to deteriorate."
