Eagan's Laura Osnes Profiled in New York Times

Less than a year after nabbing a Tony Award nomination for her portrayal of Bonnie Parker in "Bonnie & Clyde," Eagan High School graduate Laura Osnes has already lined up another leading role in a Broadway production.

Osnes will perform as Cinderella in "Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella," which debuts on Sunday, March 3, according to a profile in the New York Times. Described as a kind, charitable and faithful personality in an "often selfish" city, Osnes told the Times that she is sometimes judged for her religious faith.

But those same characteristics make her a highly-sought-after performer when it comes to playing trusting, innocent and wholesome characters, according to the Times.

Already she has played some of Broadway’s best-known ingénue characters — Sandy in “Grease”; Nellie Forbush in “South Pacific”; Hope Harcourt in “Anything Goes” — and originated the role of blossoming bad girl Bonnie Parker in “Bonnie & Clyde,” earning a Tony Award nomination for it.

Still, portraying folklore’s most famous discarder of footwear in “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella” (which opens next Sunday) is a momentous opportunity. Julie Andrews played the title character in the original production, for television in 1957, and this is the first time the musical will be mounted on Broadway. And if Ms. Osnes can pull it off, it will prove that she can make it in New York theater without having to sacrifice too much of the kindness, charity and faithfulness that got her there.
