Former Eagan resident Nicholas Mrozinski had the honor on Tuesday of being the first "Team Cee Lo" member to be voted into the Top 10 on NBC's musical competition "The Voice".
Mrozinski, who goes by the stage name Nicholas David, performed Huey Lewis' "The Power of Love" on Monday night during the semifinals round of the competition. The performance earned him enough votes from television audiences across the nation to carry him through the next round of the competition.
The Voice, a musical competition featuring four celebrity coaches, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera, is entering the final stages of the competition. Each week, the remaining artists will compete against one another, and the two receiving the least votes will be eliminated from the show. In the end, one will be named “The Voice” and will receive the grand prize of a recording contract.
Mrozinski, who grew up in Eagan and attended Eagan High School, has staked his claim as a soulful, quirky singer, and eliminated several competitors during the show's battle and knock-out rounds.
Show host Carson Daly announced Tuesday that the show received more votes on for the semifinals on Monday night than it did during last season's finale.
Mrozinski, who was featured in an televised interview during the episode on Tuesday, said the fan support has been surprising. He related a story of a particularly passionate fan who cornered him in the men's restroom and asked for a photo.
"I said, not in the bathroom, son," Mrozinski joked, although he eventually relented and took a photo with the fan.
Contestants Michaela Paige and Adriana Louise were eliminated.
