VIDEO: Poetry Slam at Caponi Art Park

A handful of young poets put on a lively poetry reading at Caponi Art Park on Sunday.

A handful of young poets tackled social injustice, romance and identity during seventh annual Poets in the Park Teen Poetry Slam on Sunday.

The art park partnered with two senior students from the School of Environmental Studies in Apple Valley to coordinate the spoken word competition, which was judged by five audience members and emceed by spoken word poet Cynthia French.

The event included break dancing by Minneapolis-based New Heist Crew and an awards ceremony for Dakota County Library’s written poetry competition.

The winners of the poetry slam competition are as follows:

First Place: Cody Abel, Eagan
Second Place: Emily Miller, Farmington
Third Place: Nikii Post, Farmington
