Burdick Named as Blue Cross Blue Shield CEO

The new CEO will take the helm in February.

Kenneth Burdick will succeed Patrick Geraghty as the CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota, the company announced late last week.

Burdick, the former senior vice president at Coventry Health Care, Inc., will join the organization in mid-February, according to a news release issued by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota.  

Burdick has formerly held senior leadership positions in underwriting, operations, sales and client relationships, and marketing. He has also been employed in senior leadership positions at Travelers Companies and CIGNA Corporation. Burdick is a graduate of Amherst College, and has a J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law.

“We are very pleased to have Ken as our leader at this time in health care,” said Blue Cross Board Chair Vance Opperman, chair of the Blue Cross board. “He has a broad range of experience at leading companies, and a strong record of growing organizations."

“I am looking forward to the challenge of leading Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota. The organization has a strong tradition of excellence, but there is also a great opportunity to create new approaches and products for the changing market,” Burdick wrote in a press release.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Eagan. Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, of which Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota is an independent licensee, is headquartered in Chicago.
