Council Expected To Vote on Development of Six-Acre Car Club

A developer plans to build a classic car storage facility and clubhouse on a site along Hwy. 3 in Eagan.

Local classic car enthusiasts may soon have a new place to store their vehicles.

Last week, the Eagan City Council was expected to vote whether to approve the rezoning and final platting of a six-acre site off Hwy. 3 in eastern Eagan. The move will allow Manley Development to build a clubhouse and 76 storage units—which can be purchased like condominiums and used to store vintage automobiles. In the end, the council voted to continue the motion until its April 17 meeting.

According to plans submitted to Eagan city officials, two of the 24x48-foot garage units would be dedicated to development of a clubhouse where members of the Eagan Car Club may potentially purchase accessory products and service for their vehicles. Owners would become members of an Owner's Association, which would take car of general maintenance, security and snow removal. They would also have the option to customize their units via individual building permits.

The development would include eight buildings and an eight-foot-tall perimeter fence—all located on a currently undeveloped site directly south of Captain Dodd Park in Eagan.

The Eagan Advisory Planning Commission voted 5-0 to recommend approval of the project after a public hearing on March 27. During the hearing, nearby residents voiced concerns about lighting and noise that the proposed facility would generate.

City Planner Mike Ridley told residents at the meeting that Eagan police will enforce citywide noise ordinances at the location. The developer's site plans do not include any outdoor flood lighting, he added.

Correction: This article was changed to correct an inaccuracy. The Eagan City Council unanimously voted to postpone a vote on the Eagan Car Club rezoning and platting until April 17.
