Discount Tire Store Underway at Corner of Duckwood and Pilot Knob

A handful of readers asked us via email, Facebook and Twitter about the construction at the corner of Pilot Knob and Duckwood. Here's your answer.

The corner of Pilot Knob Road and Duckwood Drive will soon play host to a new, 7,000-square-foot tire retailer and service shop.

Discount Tire, a national retailer with more than 825 stores in 23 states, is currently constructing a new store—and plans to open the doors on the new facility in August, according to Discount Tire Sales and Marketing Content Editor Mark Thurman.

The retail and service center will offer tire and wheel-related services including tire changes, repair, safety checks, air checks, rotations and balancing, Thurman said. Discount Tire already has 20 locations in Minnesota, including one in Apple Valley, Thurman said.

Based in Scottsdale, Ariz., Discount Tire is America's largest independent tire retailer and was founded in 1960 by Bruce Halle.

The Eagan location will have a total of six services bays and will employ as many as 10 full- and part-time workers, Thurman said. The store's hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Thurman declined to say why the company chose Eagan for its newest location, or whether the opening is part of a larger roll-out of new stores in the state.

"It’s an excellent business climate, our doing business in the state has been very, very productive,” Thurman said.
