Two Eagan residents are planning to open new laundromat in a 2,300-square-foot space in The Shoppes at Cedar Grove, according to planning documents released by Eagan city officials.

Applicant Anderson Property Management is requesting a conditional use permit that would allow the laundromat to occupy the space in the mall—which is a 40,000-square-foot, multi-tenant building located on Silver Bell Road.

The laundromat would be owned and operated by Eagan residents Steven and Deborah Machacek, according to a letter submitted by Steven Machacek to city officials. The Machaceks own several similar facilities in Burnsville, Chanhassen and Inver Grove Heights and have lived in Eagan since 1987, the letter said.

A laundromat previously operating in the area has since closed, according to Anderson Property Managment, leaving Cedar Grove residents without a place to handle weekly laundry or the cleaning of larger items, like comforters and rugs. The address of the new laundromat, if approved, would be 1981 Silver Bell Rd.

Current tenants of the Shoppes at Cedar Grove include Cedar Grove Barbers, Hoban Restaurant, Anytime Fitness and Mike's Shoe Repair, among others.

The Eagan Advisory Planning Commission voted to recommend approval of a conditional use permit for the new business during a regular meeting on Sept. 24. The permit will likely go before the Eagan City Council on Oct. 2 for final approval.

Martha Anderson, a representative from Anderson Property Management, spoke of the need for a laundromat in the Cedar Grove area at the planning commission meeting on Monday night.

"We took a good hard look at what use would fit this neighbohood," said Anderson. "I know that it's a huge multi-family area, and often times in those apartment buildings they don't have the same kind of use that commercial laundromat will provide."
