iBeach Opens in Eagan

iBeach Tan is now open at 1654 Diffley Road, Suite 108. Members can tan there 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Danielle Denny had always wanted to have her own business. She also enjoys tanning.

So when she learned that an iBeach Tan franchise was available in Eagan, it seemed like a great fit. She took over.

The Eagan is located on Diffley Road near Interstate 35E. It opened in July, which Denny admits isn’t an ideal time to open a tanning salon. However, starting during a slower time helped her get settled and prepare for the upcoming busy season, she said.

Denny, a mom who lives in St. Paul Park and attended Burnsville High School, studied environmental science at the University of Minnesota. She likes science, and that natural scientific interest led her to study the science behind tanning and tanning equipment. As a businesswoman, she knew that she wanted an Eagan location because of the good business environment in the city, and because many people here like to tan.

iBeach Tan is a local company headquartered in Maple Grove. They work closely with the franchise owners in a step-by-step approach to getting the business up and running. Today there are only two locations in the Twin Cities area, but several more will be opening soon. iBeach tan offers four levels of tanning experience, including the VersaSpa, where the tanner stands throughout the process. They also sell skin products including scrubs, exfoliating products, and moisturizers.

When someone becomes a member, that person completes a skin type analysis that looks at skin color, hair and eye color, genetic background, ease of tanning and frequency of burning. Points are assigned to each answer, yielding a score that places the member in one of six skin types. The skin type dictates the maximum length of time that person can tan.

Each member’s thumbprint is stored in the computer so that they can be identified and their tanning profile activated. When they enter the club, the thumbprint scanner recognizes their identity and knows their skin type. The business will not allow them to exceed the maximum minutes recommended for their skin type.

iBeach Tan is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which appeals to many members. Laura Ruthenbeck started coming to iBeach Tan when the Eagan location opened. She tans year round, and likes the ability to tan at any time that is convenient for her.
