Protestors Target Eagan Walmart in Dispute Over Labor Practices

A small group of protesters crying foul over Walmart's labor practices have targeted the in an effort to promote their message.
The protestors stood behind a large banner sign at the corner of Duckwood Drive and Town Center Drive in Eagan on Friday afternoon—conveniently placed in close proximity to Walmart.
Although they declined to comment or give their names, the protesters did say they have been regularly stationed at the same location for several weeks.

Press releases distributed by the group allege that a company hired by a Walmart contractor to help construct its new location in Lakeville doesn't meet area labor standards for carpenter craft workers, icluding fully paying for family health benefits and pension. .
In 2010, the company, Houston-based Destin Drywall and Paint, Inc., was also given six citations by the United States Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration for fall hazards and safety violations.

"North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters believes that Walmart has an obligation to the community to see that area labor standards are met for construction work at all their projects, including any future work," the press release said.
