The upcoming DFL51 convention IS a BIG deal!

The 2014 Senate District 51 DFL convention will take place in Eagan on Saturday, March 22.  Over 200 delegates will gather to endorse our candidates for the Minnesota House of Representatives, to consider resolutions for how the state and nation should address the pressing issues we all face, and to elect party officers, as well as delegates to the state DFL convention in Duluth.

Because we’re a district that increasingly delivers votes to Democrats, we’ll be sending 19 delegates and 19 alternates to the state convention. In addition, these dedicated folks will represent our community at the congressional district convention in April at which they will nominate the candidate who will replace John Kline as our representative in Congress.

Won’t it be nice to finally have a U.S. representative from our region who cares about quality education, who supports investment in our roads and other infrastructure, who believes we all should have affordable health care, and who realizes that we, as a nation, can no longer ignore the threat of climate change? Won’t it be refreshing to have a U.S. representative who cares about job creation enough to do something about it? And who actually listens to constituents and openly and honestly considers what they need?

We are fortunate that through hard work, good communication and good policy we have a state Senator, Jim Carlson, and state Representatives, Sandy Masin and Laurie Halverson, who have these qualities in spades. But aren’t we well past the time to have a representative in Congress who we can trust to do the right thing?

So, yes, the upcoming DFL51 convention IS a BIG deal and we all owe a special thanks to the 213 delegates who have made the commitment of time and energy to participate and actually MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
