Spring is finally here and so is the time to ready your house for sale!

Simple tips on preparing your house to put on the market during the spring months.

Spring has officially arrived or at least it has in my mind.   At some point we all need to draw a line in the sand over a decision and mine is spring is here.  Now I am sure by now you all have heard the housing market is "hot" and there is a shortage of quality houses on the market right now.....well, that is still the case....but my blog isn't on that.

Right now I am hoping that many of you are thinking of getting your house on the market as we have buyers but not enough houses for them.  Thus I am going to offer a few nuggets of knowledge for prepping the ouside of your house for a spring sale.

1.  Your yard has revealed all the hidden gems that were covered by the snow.  When I say gems, I am eluding to trash, family or unfriendly dog leftovers and the sandbox toys that just did not get in the garage before the first snowfall.  Get a large garbage bag, pry your children off the couch and have them pick up all the stuff in your yard.  Do not forget to clean under and around shrubs as they are historically gathering spots for trash.

2.  The snow puts a lot of weight on your grass over the long winter thus the grass is flat and lifeless.  Grab a rake (or again pry your children away from the Xbox) and freshen up the grass.  Not only does your lawn look better, it is healthier and will allow for the grass to grow thicker.  It's a win-win situation on this one.

3.  Fertilize your lawn so any dead spots will have the greatest opportunity to fill in before your house goes on the market.  Buyers do not find the large yellow spot scattered around your yard attractive.  It just shows that you have a dog or six that enjoys marking their territory.

4.  Hose down the exterior of your house.  Dust, debris, cobwebs and winter remnants enjoy attaching to the siding and in the crevices .  A great washing will bring out the true attractiveness of your house so that there should not be a sane buyer that does not find the true beauty!

Of course, there are a lot of tasks that homeowners need to do to fully prepare their house for sale.  If you tackle these jobs earlier in the game and get valuable advice for a Realtor, your house will be a quick sale.  If you would like more information and to receive a free copy of my book on getting your house ready to sell, just click here and I will send you a digital copy.
