BLOG: From Ambassador Life to College Student Life

Eagan Funfest Ambassador, Megan Towle, shares her experiences as an Ambassador and how they have prepared her for her new life as a college student at the College of St. Benedict

Hey Everyone! My name is Megan Towle, and I am one of the 2012-2013 Eagan Funfest Ambassadors. You might know me from my blog with the DCR Chamber, but I am now blogging on behalf of the Eagan Ambassador Program as well! For those of you who don’t know me, I will just give a little bit of background information about myself. I am 18 years old and recently graduated from Eagan High School. I currently attend the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota, and I hope to major in Business Management. I have been dancing my whole life and am currently a member of the CSB Dance Team, and I absolutely love it.

I became involved with the Eagan Funfest Ambassador program after interning at the Dakota County Regional Chamber of Commerce. I had never been a part of a program like the Ambassadors at all, and it was definitely a little out of my comfort zone to put myself in situations where I didn’t know anybody! After my first event with the other girls, though, I knew that it was going to be a great year. Everyone was so sweet and friendly, and they really just made the process that much easier. After coronation, I really began to get in the swing of things, and I was so much more confident and outgoing! Little did I know then, but these were skills that were going to come in extremely handy in my first month of college!

My first month at St. Bens was filled with so many new experiences. I met ZILLIONS of new people, learned to live away from my family, and how to share space with a stranger (Just to name a few!). All of these things required me to be extremely outgoing, accepting and patient; all skills that I developed in my few short months as an ambassador! I was so surprised how comfortable I was talking to new people, and I knew that I definitely had my experience as an ambassador to thank for my newfound self-confidence and openness. Activities such as meeting other town’s royalty or ambassador groups, talking with community members at various local events, and spending time with past and present Eagan Funfest Ambassadors have all helped me develop these skills, and

I am so grateful I had the chance to learn from such incredible people. One of the coolest experiences I have had in my time at college is meeting girls and finding out that they are either past or present royalty from their home towns! It is such an amazing bond to have with someone, and you instantly have so much in common. Everyone has such great stories from their experiences as ambassadors or royalty, and it is fun to share these with each other as well as girls who have never been ambassadors! These ladies automatically share many of the same values, qualities, and personality types, and I automatically knew that I was going to be great friends with all of them.

Between beginning my journey as an Eagan Funfest Ambassador and as a college student, I know this year is going to be filled with even more new and exciting experiences, and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store.  I look
forward to telling you all more about my experiences and everything I am learning along the way! Thanks so much for reading!
