Eagan Funfest Ambassador remembers the Ambassadors' Memorial Day experiences

Hi Everyone, this is Eagan Funfest Ambassador Elle again!

I wanted to give you a little update on what us Eagan Funfest Ambassadors have been up to!

Everyone tends to have their own tradition on how they celebrate Memorial Day. Some have picnics, some go to a baseball game, some honor their family members who have passed by visiting the cemetery, and many attend Memorial Day services honoring those who have served. The Eagan Funfest Ambassadors had the honor and privilege of being part of the Memorial Day event at the Tribute and Memorial Plaza in Eagan Central Park. Unfortunately, it was a rather cold, windy day, but at least the rain held off until the very end of the ceremony.

This was the 3rd Memorial Day event held at the new tribute plaza since it was completed. During the Eagan Memorial Celebration, we were entertained by the Eagan Men’s Chorus who sang military songs in honor of each military branch. Also, there were several speeches from current and retired military men who shared their experiences and touching stories. Wayne and Gwen Olsen of Eagan, who lost their son, Lance Cpl, Daniel Olson, the 49th Minnesota military member to die in Iraq, presented a wreath of remembrance during an emotional moment at the end of the ceremony.

The Eagan Funfest Ambassadors assisted with serving refreshments after the conclusion.

On behalf of all the Eagan Funfest Ambassador Program, I want to extend a huge thank you to the hometown heroes: firefighters, police, and all those past and present for their service in the military. Without them, our country would not have the freedoms we are so blessed to have.

It truly was an honor and amazing experience  for us to be in the presence of these heroes who are responsible for helping us maintain our daily freedoms.

Though this was my first year attending a formal Memorial Day service, I plan to incorporate this into my family’s future Memorial Day Traditions.

Until Next time,

Elle Gilbert
