Julia Sexton blogs about Operation Christmas Child

A couple of months ago I had another life changing experience. I was volunteering at Operation Christmas Child at Commons on Marice. Operation Christmas Child is a foundation that delivers boxes (packed and organized by volunteers) around the world to people in need. When I went to this event at this assisted living, I was struck by the similarities to my grandfather’s assisted living who just passed away this last November. All of the volunteers and workers there were so kind and inviting. It reminded me of the warmth of my Papa and all his friends and caretakers in Massachusetts. The first thing we did when we got there was set out tablecloths on the tables. Next, we put out the boxes. Then, we put the gifts that we would put into the boxes. When everything was set up, the woman who was directing this told us that we would be standing in a line and one by one assisting the people that lived there in packing the boxes. We would sometimes push these people in their wheelchairs or carry the boxes or pick out different items. All the people were so happy to help somebody else out. As I am sure you all know it is a great feeling. After we had finished packing all the boxes we put away the things we couldn't fit in boxes, the table cloths and tables. I know that working with these people had shown me how important it is for everyone to have a chance to help. It makes us all a little happier.

Here is my blog. Hope you like it! :)
