After Months-Long Search, 360 Communites Chooses New CEO

Sal Mondelli will bring a business background to his new position as the CEO of the nonprofit organization.

, 360 Communities announced on Wednesday that it has selected a new person to pilot the organization.

Burnsville resident Sal Mondelli took the helm as 360 Communities' new CEO effective Tuesday, May 29, according to a press release issued Wednesday by the Burnsville-based nonprofit. Mondelli will oversee the more than 50 services offered by the nonprofit, including a network of five food shelves, two domestic violence shelters, immigrant services and more, the statement said.

Mondelli brings a business background to 360 Communities, which struggled with its finances in previous years. According to a story in the Star Tribune, the nonprofit lost $363,000 in 2009, the last full year financial numbers were available. The organization's net assets also fell $1.3 million between 2007 and 2012.

The organization also saw considerable turnover in the top ranks in the months leading up to Ajax's ousting, with four leaders leaving over summer and fall of last year.

Mondelli's background includes employment as a CEO of growth and startup companies, in addition to serving as a Business Unit Executive at IBM Corporation. Mondelli also currently serves as the board chairman of the Burnsville Performing Arts Center, and a boardmember for the Greater Minneapolis YMCA and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Minnesota

Mondelli has a master's degree in systems management from the University of South California and a bachelor's degree in political science from the United States Naval Academy, according to the press release.

In his LinkedIn profile he describes himself as an "experienced general manager...who has achieved sustained revenue and profit growth at large and small companies." He touted his ability to take on "turnaround situations" and "dispassionately make difficult decisions to produce winning teams."

"I'm am excited to join this great team of committed professionals who do amazing work," Mondelli wrote in a press release. "This is an agency that makes an impact and a real difference in the lives of people who need help and support.
