Blotter: Playground Burned, Three Separate Knifepoint Robberies Reported

One attempted robbery was reported at the UPS parking lot on Opperman Drive, while the other two occurred at the Budget Host Inn on Highway 55.

Early last Monday morning, the playground at Sky Hill Park went up in flames.
The fire was reported around 4:04 a.m. and by the time emergency response arrived the slide had burned to nothing. Other parts damaged by the heat.
A newspaper delivery man reported seeing two teenage males in the vicinity at the time. A chase ensued, but no one taken into the custody. Arson is suspected.

July 11
7:11 a.m.—Burglary reported on the 700 block of Bridle Ridge Road East. Entry made through unlocked side door on the garage.
8:42 a.m.—Employee theft reported. Woman fired for using company credit card improperly, buying over $2,000 of stuff for personal use at Sam's Club.
5:02 p.m.—Suspicious male reported at Lebanon Hills Park. Reporting party said a man was seen hiding a camera, taking pictures of the girls on the beach. Suspect is described as a white male of about 50 years in age, with gray hair, in jeans and a polo shirt. The man left in his Mini Cooper when he realized that the reporting party was watching.
8:12 p.m.—Medical call on the 4500 block of Scott Trail. Eight-month-old baby reportedly choking on the cap for a tube of toothpaste. Family unable to get it out of the baby's throat. Child breathing on arrival. Transported to Children's in St. Paul.

July 10
12:43 p.m.—Theft and disturbance reported at Superamerica in the 2000 block of Cliff Road. Manager saw customer slip a can into his pocket, then take it back out when he realized he'd been observed. Suspect threatened to sue the manager's "(expletive) (expletive)" after he called the police, threw something at the window and broke it. Suspect apprehended and cited for damage to property.
4:13 p.m.—Three car pileup reported at Cliff Road and Slater.

July 9
1:41 a.m.—Robbery reported at Budget Host Inn on Highway 55. Reporting party said that three Indian males, one black male and a blonde female held knives to her throat and forced her to give them $300. The robbery occurred in the reporting party's room. The group took the reporting party's truck as well. Caller believes the suspects had been smoking crack. Suspects said they would return in the morning. Another guest reported a similar incident with the same people. They took $26 from him and stole his truck. The truck was later recovered in St. Paul.
12:55 p.m.—Very young kitten stuck in window well at address on the 4000 block of Wildwood Street. Small orange kitten taken to pound.

July 8
1:06 p.m.—Rabbit carcass left in front of garage on 1600 block of Snowflake Drive. Reporting party suspects neighbor did it because she is on the homeowners' association board.
11:26 p.m.—Disturbance reported at Holiday gas station on the 4500 block of Nicols Road. Customer tried to use fake ID to buy cigarettes and then refused to leave. Photo on the driver's license shows black male. Suspect is white.

July 7
9:23 p.m.—Suspicious person reported on the 4000 block of Slater Road. Reporting party says that a neighbor called to say that a man "across the way" was hiding, taking pictures of her children playing outside. Suspects spoken to. Denied it. No photos found on the phone. 

July 6

2:49 p.m.—Domestic assault reported at Thomas Lake Pointe Road. Suspect cocked fist, threatened to hit his sister, then tackled his mother and punched her several times. Fled the scene.

July 5
12:00 a.m.—Car accident reported at Blue Cross Road and Yankee Doodle. Car versus tree. Party appeared to be intoxicated, dispatcher can hear people in background saying "They are totally wasted." Driver was bleeding from the head, but trying to get into the car and leave. Car was smoking. Driver left the scene on foot.
12:10 a.m.—Car accident in roundabout at Diffley and Rahn. At time of call, car is still moving, but slowly, dragging stuff in its wake. Appeared to have taken out several signs in the process. Airbags were deployed. Driver arrested for fourth-degree DWI. 
2:05 a.m.—Burglary on 900 block of Wescott Trail. Two bedroom windows busted out. Game counsels and suitcases missing.
12:32 p.m.—Dine and ditch reported at Kyoto Sushi. Customers walked out on $84 bill.
1:32 p.m.—Woman at Walmart threatening to ram husband's car with her own if he doesn't come out. Police arrive to mediate. Man agreed to go fishing "until things cool down."
3:53 p.m.—Chicken reported missing from coop. Neighbors suspected. No further action taken.
10:04 p.m.—Juvenile complaint on the 1500 block of Clemson Drive. Rocks thrown at tent in yard, where party was camping out. Kids were gone by the time police arrived. 

July 4
2:05 a.m.—4000 block of Robert Trail South, reporting party stated that three adults were involved domestic altercation, all drunk. Male was trying to break down bathroom door, where the reporting party was huddled with her children. The suspect blew a .426 and taken to detox at Regions Hospital.
8:31 a.m.—Reporting party appeared in police department lobby, saying that her son was exhibiting increasingly strange and threatening behavior. She requested information about a temporary shelter, because she no longer felt safe at their home on the 4000 block of Slater Road. He had hidden knife under his sister's mattress, and had also threatened her with a drill. The woman said she'd also found a book about killing and dismembering someone in his possession.
4:48 p.m.—Theft of nine tubs of baby formula reported at the Walgreen's on Town Centre Drive.
5:06 p.m.—Reporting party's wedding ring missing, 18-year-old daughter suspected, as she has stolen from her mother in the past.
10:23 p.m.—Two men seen with bunch of fireworks in park in the 1700 block of Covington Lane. The men made a break for it when police arrived, but were caught and made to come back to the park to clean up the mess they left.
11:15 p.m.—Woman in electric wheelchair was going home. Around the intersection of Denmark and Duckwood she fell into a large hole in the pavement. After five vehicles passed, someone finally got out and helped her. No medical assistance required, but the officers took note of the hole and placed a cone over it. Report to be forwarded to the street department.
11:56 p.m.—Animal complaint at Holiday on 1000 block of Diffley Road. Small Yorkie under the reporting party's car, refusing to come out. Caller states that they were eventually able to get it out, and wrap it in a blanket. The seven-year-old dog had been hit by a car.

July 3
10:45 a.m.—Small dog killed by coyote earlier in the morning.
1:01 p.m.—Big bag of garbage found in pond near Eagan Community Center, containing checking account information in it and other miscellaneous papers. Contacted the person listed on the papers by phone. Man said he'd moved to the Bronx in New York City one week before, and that he "may have thrown a couple of papers in there." Ticket for littering issued in absentia. 
8:08 p.m.—Suspicious person report. Reporting party on the 3000 block of Golden Hill Terrace states that a 27-year-old stranger had contacted his 16-year-old niece via Facebook. The man was making suggestive comments to the girl, and had tried to coax her into a meeting at the Mall of America. Offered to take her out on his boat.
8:46 p.m.—Disturbance of the peace on the 3000 block of Valley Ridge Drive. Reporting party stated that her daughter was walking to the store when the suspect party pushed her. The suspect's grandmother spit on her as well. Grandmother denied it, saying she simply spits when she talks. 
9:51 p.m.—Knifepoint robbery attempted in the 500 block of Opperman Drive. Reporting party said that a black male wearing blue shirt and dark pants approached him in the parking lot, demanded his keys and wallet. The suspect threatened him with a five-inch hunting knife, but the reporting party refused to hand over the goods. The man tried to stab him several times, but the reporting party only sustained minor scratches. No medical intervention was necessary. Suspect is described as a black male in his early to mid-30s, abut six feet tall and 210 pounds, with a peach fuzz mustache. At the time he was wearing a gray T-shirt, blue jeans and a black hat. The man fled the scene, running toward the YMCA.
9:32 p.m.—Fireworks complaint on the 4000 block of Slater Road. Reporting party said that neighbors were putting fireworks into beer bottles, then setting them off on the patio below. Reporting party could not go outside for more direct observation for fear of flying shrapnel.  
10:17 p.m.—Giant poodle at large in 1000 block of Kettle Creek Road. Reporting party called phone number on tag, with no response. Animal impounded at Park Animal Hospital. Later released to owner.
