Governor Grants Eagan Resident Second Term on Met Council

Steven Chávez will serve a second term on the Metropolitan Council, a 17-member board that deals with issues affecting the seven-county Twin Cities region.

An Eagan man will serve a second term on one of the Twin Cities' key government bodies. Steven Chávez will once again sit on the Metropolitan Council.  

Gov. Mark Dayton first appointed Chávez in 2011. On July 12, he re-appointed Chávez to a second term representing District 15, which includes Burnsville, Inver Grove Heights, South St. Paul and most of Eagan.

Chávez is director of Public Advocacy for Integrated Governance Solutions, an Eden Prairie company that provides corporate governance and risk management counseling to company directors and senior management teams. Prior to that, Chávez was the director of ethics and compliance for MoneyGram International. He enjoyed a long career as a legal consultant and staff attorney.

Chávez chairs the Met Council's Litigation Review special committee.

The council is not his first foray into governance. He has also served on the Dakota County Planning Commission, the Eagan Planning Commission, and the Eagan Technology Task Force.

His new term expires in January of 2015.
