New Assistant Superintendent Hired by District 191

Cynthia Amoroso, currently the director of curriculum and instruction in Mankato, will join the district on July 1.

The changing of the guard at the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District is now complete.

Last week, the district chose Cynthia Amoroso as the new assistant superintendent in Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191. Amoroso will join the district on July 1, the same day that the new superintendent, Joe Gothard, officially takes the reins. Amoroso is successor to Chris Lindholm, who is leaving the district to become the superintendent of Pequot Lakes, a district in central Minnesota.

Her appointment bookends a period of intense change at District 191. Top leadership has been in flux since last fall, when sitting Superintendent Randy Clegg announced his retirement. In March, School Board Member Paula Teiken resigned. Lindholm made his intentions known in April.

At the time, the district had discussed eliminating the assistant position entirely, due to financial strain. Clegg said he would defer to the wishes of the incoming superintendent, however.

Gothard evidently opted to retain the position, and in fact led the search and interview process from afar (he is serving out his last few days as the assistant superintendent of the Madison Metropolitan School District in Wisconsin). Amoroso's appointment got the Board of Education's official stamp of approval on June 20.

Amoroso is a longtime employee of the Mankato Area Public Schools, where she has served as an elementary and high school teacher, assistant principal and reading coordinator. In 1998, she was promoted to Mankato's director of curriculum and instruction, her current position.

"Cindy's colleagues refer to her as a 'go to' person because of her strong instructional leadership and understanding of complex challenges," Gothard stated in an official release.
