Rescued Sheltie Lost, Afraid in Eagan

Lady, a brown and white rescued Sheltie who is afraid of people and in need of daily medication, has been missing since Friday.

A lost dog in Eagan is creating a social media blizzard in an effort to find a skittish Sheltie that slipped out of her leash on Friday. Efforts to lure the frightened dog who is afraid of people have been unsuccessful, so searchers have turned to an all out social media blitz to help spread the word. A steady stream of tweets and retweets flowed through #Eagan and other Twitter news feeds Sunday night.

Melissa Freer, a pet advocate and canine foster parent who runs the No Dog About It Blog, lost her foster dog, Lady, when the Sheltie slipped out of her collar after becoming spooked near on Town Centre Drive.

Lady is a rescued Sheltie that has undergone years of rehab but still spooks easily. She is also in need of daily medications so searchers have been raising the urgency level with flyers and a social media barrage to alert Eagan residents.

According to a blog post by Freer, Lady and two other dogs slipped out of their collars after becoming entangled by a sign in Chuck & Don’s parking lot. Freer was able to corral two of the dogs after a short chase, but the skittish Sheltie disappeared behind Walgreen’s.

Volunteers from the Minnesota Sheltie Rescue, friends and even strangers have been involved in the search and searchers have received numerous calls from people who say they have spotted the elusive dog. Freer was able to track Lady to a King’s Pond Road neighborhood on Saturday with the aid of Lady’s original foster mom who immediately became involved in the search. Freer called out to Lady to no avail and according to her blog post, said “That’s when my heart really sank. Because Lady wasn’t just scared, she was freaked out beyond belief and not likely to stop running.”

As of Sunday night, Lady had not been seen since. Searchers set out live traps on Saturday but those efforts have so far been unsuccessful.

Because of Lady’s skittish nature, those spotting her are being asked not to call to her or try to approach her as that will only spook her out the of area.

If you spot Lady, please alert the Minnesota Sheltie Rescue at 612-616-7477 immediately with the exact location of the sighting and the direction the dog is headed. You can also Tweet @melzpetpals with the information. A reward is being offered.

Eagan Patch will follow the search and have more on this story as information becomes available.
