Candidate Profile: Mike Roseen

Mike Roseen is a candidate for re-election to the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School Board.

Four candidates are running in the District 196 (Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan) School Board Election this year. There are three open spots on the board.

Patch asked the candidates about their experience, connection to the district and about the issues that they would focus on. Here are the responses from current school board member and candidate Mike Roseen in a phone interview with Patch.

What leadership experience do you have?

I’ve been on the school board for 22 years and have served on every board and committee that the school board has.

What other relevant experience do you have?

I was chairman of Dakota County Community Corrections, chairman of Dakota County Board of Equalization... and I’ve owned my own small business for nine-years.

What is your occupation?

I am a retired police officer of 31 years.

Where did you go to school?

"I have a master's degree in public administration at Hamline University." 

Roseen said that he received his undergraduate degree from Concordia College.

Do you have a spouse, children or any other family members you’d like to tell voters about?

I’ve been married for 37 years and I have two grown sons.

What is your connection to District 196?

In addition to his experience on the school board: "Both my sons graduated from Apple Valley High School."

What issues are you most focused on?

"I’m focused on all the issues because that’s what someone on the school board does. [There are] some that need deeper looking into, such as the budget... 

"I’m not a one-issue candidate. I never have and I never will. The budget is the main priority because everything revolves around it." 

Roseen added that he wanted to make District 196 as good as it can be.
