Eagan Horticulturists Bring Home Honors for Apples, Potatoes from Minnesota State Fair

Eagan residents placed in 15 categories, with one boy coming taking second in the youth-level Giant Pumpkin Competition.

The results are in for all but one horticultural competition at the 2013 Minnesota State Fair, and Eaganites went home with a host of honors. 

Here's a list of the results that have come in so far (we're still waiting on one of the vegetable competitions):

Fruit and Wine

  • Apple, Haralson—David Hines, first place
  • Apple, State Fair—David Hines, first place
  • Rhubarb Wine (Amateur)—Maureen Janke, fifth place
  • Apple Wine (Amateur)—Maureen Janke, second place

Potatoes
  • Atlantic—Nicholas Daniel, second place
  • Yukon Gold—Nicholas Daniel, first place
  • Ranger—Nicholas Daniel, second place
  • Finger—Nicholas Daniel, third place
  • Colored Potato—Nicholas Daniel, third place
  • Sweepstakes, Grand & Reserve Champion Potato—Nicholas Daniel, second place

Vegetables (Group Two)
  • Cucumbers (slicing six inches and larger)—Gerald Volkman, fourth place
  • Peppers (hot Anaheim chile type)—Rachel Thelen, third place
  • Peppers (long Cayenne type)—Rachel Thelen, fourth
  • Peppers (Hungarian wax type or banana)—Rachel Thelen, second place

Vegetables Special: Giant Pumpkin Competition
Largest Pumpkin, youth entry—Nicholas Daniel, second place, 110 pounds
