BLOG: Memorial Day Observance in Eagan on Monday, May 28, 2012

Everyone is invited to the Memorial Day Observance to be held in the newly completed Tribute & Memorial Plaza on Monday, May 28 at 2 PM.

Everyone is invited to the Memorial Day Observance to be held in the newly completed Tribute & Memorial Plaza on Monday, May 28 at 2 p.m. This day is set aside to honor and remember the many who gave the ultimate sacrifice.  We want to take time to say thank you, and pray that no more lives will be lost.

The plaza is located in on Central Parkway.  Before the ceremony, music will be provided by the Royal Brass Quintet. Eagan American Legion Commander, Tom Mullon will host the day's events. It is suggested that folks bring lawn chairs for their comfort. Following the ceremony, there will be refreshments and social gathering in the nearby park shelter.

The observance starts with the Eagan Police & Fire Honor Guard who will present the colors. Participants in the service will include, World War ll veteran Dick Carroll, the Eagan Men's Quartet, Chaplain Debbie Brown and Mayor Mike Maguire, who will deliver opening comments. Special guest speakers will be 1st Lt. Jonathan Reid with the Red Bulls Division and highly-decorated Vietnam veteran, Mark Mulvihill.

Wayne and Gwen Olsen will present a wreath in memory of their son Daniel and all lost heroes. The service concludes with taps by Joe Swierczek and the retiring of colors.

Volunteers will be needed in the coming years to keep this Memorial Day observance a tradition in Eagan. It is important that our community continues to remember our fallen brothers and sisters who have put their lives in harms way.  Many thanks to all the volunteers who have signed on to participate in the observance. Also, thanks to the Boy Scouts, ladies from Gramercy Park and Eagan's Parks and Recreation Dept. Refreshments are being provided compliments of Rainbow, Cub, Al Bakers, Kowalski's and Wuolett Bakery.
