BLOG: Where's The "Recovery" For Senior Citizens?

Where's recovery and hope for seniors when looking to their future?

Where's the recovery, the hope for seniors when looking to their future?

How do they go forward when so much has been lost these past years to their retirement savings, their nest egg for a rainy day? In their earlier years, they saved and received interest from banks, could wait out the stock market as it went up and down, had the government take money from their paychecks to go into Social Security.

Seniors had watched the value of their homes increase and looked forward to have something to sell at a decent price when they needed to downsize or to into a senior residence/nursing home. These past years have taken away their hopes for a decent life in their elder years. Much of their savings were lost in the stock market, money that will take years to recover. The value of their homes have decreased at an enormous rate, there has been a very little increase in the monthly Social Security checks, bank are giving very little interest on savings or CD's.

Seniors aren't in a position to look for work when the competition is too great.  Seniors can look forward to more doctor appointments, without finances to continue to pay their every increasing health-care/insurance premiums, utility bills, etc. Millions of seniors still have to pay taxes and aren't on welfare. They don't want to be dependent on the government, but slowly their nest egg has been diminished.

Costs for everyone have gone up, but there is no hope for revenue coming for seniors on a fixed income which doesn't take into account inflation. Where's the recovery we hear so much about? We aren't all really whining. It's the baby boomers who will realize a real shock soon, and good luck to the next generation that will have to figure out why there is no longer money for Social Security or Medicare. The Golden Years are an imaginary hope.
