Eagan's July 4th Funfest plans for Patriotic Day, July 3rd.

Plans for Eagan's July 4th Funfest is well under way. This year we celebrate our Hometown Heroes. On July 3rd, Eagan will come together for Patriotic Day.

Eagan's July 4th Funfest  is well under way with plans for the 3-day weekend.  This year we celebrate our Hometown Heroes.   On July 3rd, Eagan will come together for Patriotic Day.  The afternoon will contain Patriotic music, including songs we can all sing along to.  Two special veterans will be on hand to share some stories of World War ll.

First is Eagan resident, artist and author, Tony Caponi who recently turned 90.  Tony was born in Italy and came to America at age 15.  He became a citizen and when the war broke out, he joined the U.S. Army and returned to Italy as their enemy; not an easy thing to do with relatives still there.  Another Eagan resident, Dick Carroll grew up in Dakota County and served  in the Army Air Corps. His duties were  flying B-24 bombers, and he was shot down with a bullet in his heart and sent to a POW camp, Luft Stalag 1.  You don't want to miss hearing from these two veterans.

The Funfest committee is inviting all other veterans to participate on this day also.  We'd like to hear from service men and women from all branches of the Armed Forces, whether Coast Guard, Air Force, Navy, Marines, etc, who experienced recent combat.  We also want to recognize our police and volunteer firefighters.  Maybe you  would like to share your stories, experiences, or even  share your talents and perform.  We'd also  like a chance to say Thank You to you all for your service to our country and community.

After a short program, about 3pm, the Tribute & Memorial Plaza will be completed with the unveiling of the military statue.

There will be a place for veteran organizations on July 3 to set up and let people know what they do and  be  available with information for service personnel.

On July 4th, the traditional parade will take place starting at 10am.  If you know of someone who would make a good Grand Marshal, we'd like to add him or her to the unit.  There will be transportation for some and encourage those that can, to walk the parade route.  Please submit your nomination by June 12.

Stay connected and participate and make this a great July 4th in Eagan.  For information and people to contact, check the Funfest website or Eaganlionessmn.lionwap.org.

Fundraising continues for the beautiful Tribute & Memorial Plaza at Central Park.  There is still time to donate.
