BLOG: A Walk in the Park at Caponi Art Park

Caponi Art Park is a gem in Eagan.

This past Sunday, we were invited by Sue Hegarty (a board member of the Caponi Art Park) to a summer concert featuring the New Orleans Jazz Band in the Theater in the Woods. They have entertainment all summer long.

The park is located at 1220 Diffley Road. You probably drive by it often if you are in Eagan. It is a 60-acre gem of a park. Anyway, it had been some time since we had been there. We had relatives in from Seattle visiting so it seemed like a good thing to do. We weren’t disappointed.

We took some time wandering through the Sculpture Gardens where the majority of art by Tony Caponi (who is celebrating his 90th birthday all year long) is featured. It is a beautiful area with large trees providing lots of shade. They have visitor maps to show you paths and various sculpture locations.

Later, we hiked over to the Theater in the Woods through the tunnel under Diffley Road. We had brought our sling chairs, blanket and picnic dinner along and we were joined by more family for the concert. The Jazz music was excellent according to a family member who is a musician himself.

Whether you want to take a quiet walk in the woods or see free entertainment, I highly recommend checking out the Caponi Art Park. You can find more information at www.caponiartpark.org. They are open Tuesday through Sunday, May through October.
