This week saw the passing of Jean (Grund) Hoffbeck, an enthusiastic and loving aunt, "experimental cook," cat lover, and zealous gardener.
Hoffbeck died Sept. 3, 2013 after a brief battle with bladder cancer. She was 49 years old.
She was born on Oct. 29, 1963 in Eagan, Minnesota to John and Betty Grund.
In 1982, she graduated from Henry Sibley High School. Jean became a hair stylist after high school, during the height of the big hair craze in the 1980s. In 1985 she took a job with Viking Press, where she worked until 1999. She met her husband Kevin at Viking, a twist of fate that her family describes thusly: "Wild met mild."
The two were married on June 3, 1994. The couple lived in south Minneapolis, Wyoming, MN, Lonsdale and finally Cedar, MN.
In 1999, she took a job at GLS Companies as a dedicated plater/proofer until she became to ill to work. After Jean was diagnosed with bladder cancer in May 2013 her husband Kevin became her primary care giver, lovingly administrating medication, making ER runs, and bathing her.
Hoffbeck will be remembered by her family and friends for her warmth, candor and infectious smile.
"Jean was a good daughter, sister, wife, and aunt. She will be missed by those that are left behind but heaven will be even cozier and tranquil with her arrival garnered with her sense of purpose, wit, and laughter," her family writes.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Therese Smith.
