Letter to the Editor: Health Care System Needs Overhaul

Dear Eagan Patch:  

In a recent letter the Minnesota House Minority Leader and the Assistant Minority Leader made some unfortunate accusations rather than give thoughtful criticism. Their emotional statements are a disappointing contrast to earlier indications by the Minority Leader he would work with folks across the aisle. Representatives Sandra Masin and Laurie Halverson of Burnsville and Eagan have begun to address a health care system that doesn't reach many of those who most need it. The needs of public health require that we take precautions that can save industries years of lost employee time, and ensure a healthy populace which prevents problems rather than treat acute illness.

The time has come to join the 21st century. Instead of having great health care for the privileged few, it's time to turn that into a feature of life for everybody in our state. There is much opportunity for the development of the health care industry that can occur within the models we develop now, as informed citizens who discuss our health needs and work with our legislators to craft a system that serves us all. That is the purpose of the proposals being considered by State Representatives Laurie Halverson and Sandra Masin.
