GOVERNMENT BASHING

Government bashing has become very popular these days.  This is what it sounds like to me.

Are my Social Security savings safe in government hands?  Should government get out of public education?  Why should the government promote affordable health care?  Should government be involved in distributing agricultural surplus to starving children?  Can we really trust government Mail service to handle our private documents?   Do we really need government to inspect and protect our food and water supplies?  Are all those product safety laws really necessary; the ones that protected children from lead poisoning and workers from asbestos?  Why do we need government to manage the spread of diseases or test the effectiveness of new drugs?

Couldn’t we get private companies to do it for less?  Why shouldn’t Monsanto control the nation’s food supply?  We know we can trust them.  They assured us that DDT was safe.  Certainly we don’t need to express concerns about GMOs.  Or maybe we could trust a foreign company like mitsui chemicals, whose dinotefuran is killing all the bees and driving up the cost of fresh fruits.  Obviously, they made a thorough study of the environmental impact of their product.  I haven’t heard anything yet but it’s a very profitable private industry and I’m sure they’ll  be putting up some of those profits to save the bees.   Johnson and Johnson did it for Tylenol and they weren’t even responsible for the product contamination that killed seven people.   Of course that was 30 years ago. I guess profiteering is in Vogue these days. Would BP really clean up that mess in the Gulf if not for government intervention?

Private industry is about profits.   They take the profits and we pay to clean up the mess.  I’m for the people.  I would rather pool our resources and protect ourselves than live with oil spills and dead bees.   We are turning into a nation of share croppers, enslaved by our financial debt to the wealthy land owner. I’m running for Congress in my district because I trust in Government of the People more than I trust individuals motivate solely by the pursuit of wealth.
