People Hate Politicians

     If you Google “Paula Overby” you will get 6 or 7 pages of URLs that mostly reference a story the Pioneer Press did about me on August 12th.  It’s an interesting story.  Most of us have moved beyond the Barbie Doll / GI Joe model of gender but the idea of a complete reversal still seems impossible to us.  The Disney model of the prince and the princess still dominates our media.  A complete transformation is fairly rare; like a White Siberian Tiger.  It piques our interest and challenges our thinking.

If you Google men’s center along with Paula Overby you’ll see I have a position on Men’s issues as well:  http://www.tcmc.org/mentalk2/mt121001.html.  Men do have issues.  Many men think women should also be required to register for national service.  Many men think they ought to get equal time with their children.  Not surprisingly, children seem to agree with the men on that issue.

The significant point here of course is to illustrate how easily a story can get lost or distorted in the media.  It’s not for bad or biased reporting.  It’s more about the way we strive to compress our news into 144 character sound bites.
