Why is everyone so afraid of the DREAM ACT

John Kline votes for an amendment to overturn an executive order to defer deportation of students who are not U.S Citizens and the only response from Mike Obermueller is accusing Kline of being a bad person.  Where’s the facts, where’s the passion, where’s the leadership.

Mike likes to play it safe and maybe he’s not comfortable supporting immigration reform in CD2.

At least John Kline is honest about it.  Rep. John Kline (R-MN) is quoted as saying:  “the idea that there is some kind of mania for amnesty or greatly increased low-skill immigration in my district is absurd.”

There is nothing at all from Tom Craft who’s running on a superior message platform.

Surely, there must be someone on Obermuller’s staff who could do a little research and give people reasons to support immigration reform.  We’re not talking about any kind of major reform here.  We are talking about letting young people, students, stay in this country a little longer; maybe finish their senior year before we send them off to some place they have never been, where they won’t even speak the language.  It’s not only insensitive; it’s positively absurd.

The Office of budget and management has already released its report on the economic benefits of naturalizing undocumented immigrants.  An estimated 1.4 million non-resident students are attending school in this country and we’re paying for it.  It’s time we started getting back some of the benefits of all that education.   Many are at the top of their class because they are highly motivated as was any immigrant coming to America in search of the American Dream.  They represent a partial solution to our high tech labor shortage at the other end of the immigration scale.  Corporations have over 300,000 H1B visa requests outstanding to attract more immigrants to fill high tech jobs. You can bet Kline supports that.  Cutting wages for his corporate constituents comes naturally to John Kline.

This is not about feeling sorry for immigrant children.  This is not even about doing the “right Thing”.  This is about rebuilding America.  This is about allowing people to contribute.  This is about strengthening our communities.   It’s just plain good sense.
