Blood Leads Eagan Police to Accused Burglar

Police say Shawn Russell Museus and an accomplice broke into several vehicles in an underground parking garage.

Blood left at the scene of a series of car break-ins in Eagan led police to a 27-year-old man St. Paul man, who is accused of stealing iPods, GPS units, fishing gear and binoculars from several cars in an underground parking garage in January.

Shawn Russell Museus faces one felony count of second-degree burglary for his role in the alleged crime. If convicted on the charge, Museus could face a maximum of 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines.

Police were tipped off by a local resident, who told officers that he went downstairs to an underground parking garage and saw white minivan parked in the middle of the garage and a man rummaging through a vehicle. The witness allegedly asked the man what he was doing, to which the man responded "nothing".

When the witness pulled out a phone and began dialing, the man began walking toward him, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Dakota County Attorney's office. Fearing for his safety, the witness pulled out a pocket knife. At that point, the man fled toward the van, allegedly yelling "Nate, we've been made."

The witness allegedly saw another man ran to the van, folded up the license plate so it wasn't readable and jump in the vehicle. The van then left the apartment complex at a high rate of speed, police said.

Police later determined that a laundry list of items had been stolen from several vehicles parked in the underground garage. Investigators also found a window punch with blood on it near a broken window in one of the vehicles.

The blood was collected and analyzed for DNA evidence. Police say the DNA matched Museus.

Museus, who was picked up by police in South St. Paul, is currently being held in the Dakota County Jail. He also faces charges of third-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools from an incident originating in South St. Paul. His next court date is scheduled for April 24.
