Blotter: DWIs, Alcohol-Related Arrests Keep Eagan Police Busy

Police responded to a number of domestic incidents and two hit-and-run accidents in the same block on the same day, according to police reports for June 28 through July 1.

June 28

7:21 a.m.—Police responded to a report of a hit-and-run accident at Cliff Drive and Nicols Road. The suspect vehicle was traced to an owner in Hopkins; the investigation is ongoing.

11:56 a.m.—Police responded to a three-car pileup at Cliff Drive and Nicols Road. One motorist complained of knee pain, but there were no serious injuries.

12:33 p.m.—A suicidal woman at a hotel near Interstate 35E and Rahncliff Court was found with a bottle of liquid Tylenol. The woman had left “suspicious” notes, and her husband asked police to help find her; they located her with the help of OnStar and took the woman to a hospital.

5:45 p.m.—A caller reported a man assaulting a woman in the 900 block of Northview Park Road. The man chased the woman, then threw her to the ground and slapped her, the caller said, and the woman was hiding in a park restroom. The man fled into the nearby woods; police tracked him down and cited him for domestic assault.

9 p.m.—Police responded to a report of a man and woman arguing in the 1900 block of Cliff  Lake Road. The couple walked into a nearby park, still arguing, with the man waving his arms and “acting angry,” according to the caller. Officers determined that it was a verbal argument over a “misunderstanding.”

9:44 p.m.—Police arrested a 30-year-old man in the 1900 block of Silver Bell Road for violating a protection order. The man’s estranged wife told officers that she let him into her apartment to visit their children, and that he was drunk and “trashed the house.”

June 29

1:37 a.m.—Police arrested two women at a hotel in the 3300 block of Norwest Court, one for promoting prostitution and the other for prostitution, fifth-degree drug possession and possession of stolen property. A man who apparently hired the prostitute refused to open his room door; police said he will be charged by complaint.

11:20 a.m.—A 24-year-old man was arrested in the 3000 block of Eagandale Place for violating a protection order. Police learned that he was also wanted on an outstanding Ramsey County warrant for the same offense against the same victim.

4:52 p.m.—Police responded to a domestic dispute in the 3800 block of Gold Point. A woman reported that her 26-year-old daughter and her boyfriend were in the process of moving out and were yelling insults and epithets at her. No charges were filed.

5:12 p.m.—Police responded to a theft report at Blackhawk Road and Cliff Road. Someone broke into two different cars and stole a checkbook, $200 in cash and a wallet from one of the cars.

6:57 p.m.—A 41-year-old man was cited for not having a permit to solicit after a resident in the 4700 block of Wildwood Street complained of a salesman going door to door.

7:42 p.m.—A caller in the 1000 block of Ticonderoga Trail reported that someone broke into the house and took $3,600 worth of jewelry.

June 30

11:07 a.m.—A caller in the 4200 block of Westchester Circle reported that her husband was upset and had punched a hole in the wall. No charges were filed.

3:41 p.m.—Police responded to an argument between a man and a woman in the 1300 block of Town Centre Drive. A caller reported that the two were throwing plastic bottles at one another. A customer at a nearby store tried without success to get them to stop before they drove away. Police caught up to them and cited the driver and two passengers for a slew of charges, including driving with a suspended license, underage drinking, possession of drug paraphernalia and having an open bottle of alcohol in the car.

5:45 p.m.—A driver reported that a “load of garbage” had been dumped on the road in the 3300 block of Terminal Drive. Police found bicycles, a rocking chair, mattresses, a computer monitor, light bulbs, full paint cans and other garbage on the scene, including mail and Dakota County paperwork addressed to a woman who lives in the 1600 block of River Bluff Court. Police tracked down two men responsible for dumping the trash and watched while they cleaned it up. Charges are pending against the woman whose name was found on the paperwork.

10:40 p.m.—Police responded to a report of a drunk man walking in the 3300 block of Highway 13 with his pants pulled down. The man was lying on the grass when police arrived; he tried to get up several times but kept falling over. He urinated on himself and hit his head as police were helping him into a squad car; he slept on the way to detox, but became combative when the car arrived and refused to submit to a blood or urine test.

July 1

9:30 a.m.—A caller in the 4400 block of Slater Road reported that someone egged the house overnight, and said the same thing happens about every three months. The caller requested extra police patrols in the area.

5:32 p.m.—A caller in the 4100 block of Lexington Avenue reported that someone had just driven into a garage door and couldn’t seem to figure out how to put the car into reverse and get into his garage. The caller and a neighbor asked the driver if he was all right, but he seemed “very confused” and didn’t respond. Police responded and arrested the 53-year-old man for third-degree DWI and criminal damage to property.

7:24 p.m. —Police cited three people for underage drinking in the 4200 block of Amber Drive.

10:26 p.m.—A caller at Highway 13 and Interstate 35E reported a car with a dealer plate driving erratically, saying it looked “like a pinball bouncing around the lanes.” Police arrested the 40-year-old driver for fourth-degree DWI.
