Blotter: Suspicious Man Tries to Steal Lawn Gnome, Caller Says

Police also responded to several burglary calls, according to the Eagan police reports from May 28-30.

May 28

1:48 p.m.—Police responded to a theft report on the 1200 block of Town Centre Dr. The caller told police a shoplifter had just left a business on foot with a handbasket full of stolen meat. Store employees tracked the suspect, and police eventually arrested the man.

2:48 p.m.—Police responded to a suspicious person call on the 3600 block of Kennebec Dr. The caller told police that three suspects were digging through dumpsters in the area. Police found the trio with a TV set taken from a garbage bin in the back of their truck. Officers let them go with a warning.

9:21 p.m.—Police responded to a burglary call on the 1300 block of Wilderness Run Rd. The caller told police that his or her granddaughter came in through an open window at the home and stole several items, including a bottle of wine. Police spoke with the suspect—a juvenile—as well as her mother and grandparent.

10:19 p.m.—Police responded to a disturbing the peace call at a bar and restaurant on the 1200 block of Promenade Place. The caller, a female manager, told officers that a male customer was spitting at her and pushing her in an effort to get into the restaurant.

May 29

8:58 a.m.—Police responded to a harassing communications call on the 2000 block of Bluestone Lane. The reporting party told officers her neighbor had thrown cooking grease into her backyard in an effort to make the reporting party's dogs sick. The neighbor has also damaged their mailbox and harassed them. The problems, the reporting party said, began a year ago when her husband made a dog bite report against the neighbor's dog.

9:45 a.m.—Police responded to a domestic on the 1600 block of Diffley Rd. The caller told police a female had ran into a gas station crying, and was alleging that her ex-boyfriend was following her and had threatened her. The victim told police she broke up with her boyfriend last weekend. Police escorted the victim to the Lewis House in Eagan.

May 30

9:16 a.m.—Police responded to a domestic on the 1600 block of City View Dr. The caller told police her son's father choked their pet pit bull and then threw it outside. The man was upset because the caller, his ex-girlfriend, wouldn't get back together with him.

11:53 a.m.—Police responded to a burglary report on the 1400 block of Wellington Way. The caller told police that $2,000 in golf clubs were taken from a home.

1:48 p.m.—Police responded to a suspicious person call on the 1400 block of West Pond Rd. The caller told police there was a male on a bicycle loitering in the area. The man, who was carrying several plastic bags, stopped to examine copper lights and lawn figurines—including a lawn gnome in the caller's yard. The man, who was in his early 30s, later ran into the woods near the caller's home. The caller told police he or she was afraid the man was going to steal lawn items.

9:38 p.m.—Police responded to an assault call on the 3500 block of Lexington Ave.
