Condo Resident Tips Police off to Attempted Burglary

Eagan police responded to a total of three burglary incidents over the holiday weekend.

A vigilant condo resident living at Shannon Glen Condos in Eagan foiled a burglary attempt on Monday morning, according to Chief Jim McDonald.

The resident was watching a security camera feed from the condo complex's garage when she spotted two suspicious people walking through the garage, McDonald said.

"It sounds like she didn't waste any time...her gut instinct was to call the police and she did," McDonald said.

Once officers arrived, the woman used the security feed to guide police to the two suspects. Officers witnessed the man moving from car to car, trying door handles. Officers arrested the man, identified as 25-year-old Andrew Remer, and another woman, 33-year-old Heidi Fox. Police found burglary tools in their possession.

The incident was one of three burglaries or attempted burglaries that occurred over the holiday weekend in Eagan.

Just after noon on Dec. 23, police were called to along Duckwood Drive after discovering a door at the business had been forced open, according to Eagan police spokeswoman Danielle Anselment. No items or cash were taken from the business.

That same day, a burglar took a 42-inch flat screen TV from a residence on the 1900 block of Shawnee Road, according to Anselment.

The number of burglaries and thefts typically increases over the holidays, McDonald said—and three separate incidents over a single holiday weekend is not surprising, according to the police chief.

McDonald recommends that homeowners set up timers on lights or have neighbors shovel their driveway while they are away to give a house a "lived in look." Neighborhood Watch organizations are also a good alternative to help homeowners protect their property, McDonald said.
