Eagan Fire Department to Host Ice Cream Social

As many as 3,000 people attended the ice cream social last year. Children and adults will have an opportunity to learn about fire safety and check out fire department equipment.

Get up close and personal with fire trucks, hit targets with a fire hose and snack on hot dogs, cookies and ice cream.

There will be plenty to do at the Eagan Fire Department's annual Ice Cream Social, which is scheduled for 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9 at the . As many as 3,000 people attended the annual event last year, and fire department officials are expecting a high attendance again this year.

The social, hosted by the Fire Auxiliary, is one part fundraiser and one part awareness event. The sale of ice cream and other food helps the department raise money for the purchase of equipment, Eagan Deputy Fire Chief Pat Diloia said. But the department also takes the opportunity to help educate the public on fire safety through a bevy of activities and educational information provided at the social.

This year, parking for the event will be provided at A shuttle will be available to transport attendees from the school parking lot to the safety center for the event.
