Eagan Man Charged with Making Terroristic Threats

Police say Daniel James Dahlberg pulled a handgun on a man on July 4.

An Eagan man has been charged with making terroristic threats after police say he pulled a gun on a man and threatened to “shoot his eye out” on July 4.

Daniel James Dahlberg, 22, who lives in the 1900 block of Jade Lane, faces a felony charge of making terroristic threats, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, Eagan police were called to Dahlberg’s home on the evening of July 4 on a report of a fight. When officers arrived, they discovered that “numerous people” had been fighting, and some had left in a car.

Officers found the car at a nearby intersection. The driver told them that she had gone to Dahlberg’s home to drop off his child, and she was accompanied by her sister and her sister’s boyfriend.

The woman told police that Dahlberg wasn’t happy about his son being dropped off, and threatened on the phone to “kick her [expletive].”

The group dropped off the child, then the woman realized that she’d left her keys in the diaper bag that she had left with Dahlberg, so they returned to the building, according to the complaint.

When they arrived, Dahlberg and the sister’s boyfriend began throwing punches at one another, the complaint says. The woman said she saw a gun in Dahlberg’s hand when she came back out of the building after retrieving her keys, but that he dropped it during the fight.

The woman said she took the gun and put it inside her car, where police later found a .22-caliber handgun.

The man who had been fighting with Dahlberg told police that when he first arrived, Dahlberg pulled out the handgun, pointed it at him and said, “If you don’t get out of here, I’ll shoot your eye out.” When they returned, Dahlberg came outside and pointed the gun at the man and the two women in the car; the man said he got out and began fighting with Dahlberg.

Dahlberg admitted to police that the gun was his, according to the complaint, but when officers found the gun and began asking him questions about it, he said he had pulled it out and threw it to the ground when he knew that police were on their way.

On the way to jail, Dahlberg made repeated remarks about his life being over, according to the complaint, and asked officers when he would get out of jail. “There is no way I’m getting out,” he told police. “I pulled a gun on somebody. I’m probably gonna be in jail for a year.”

The statement was recorded on the squad car’s audio and video equipment, the complaint says.

An omnibus hearing in Dahlberg’s case is scheduled for July 25 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.
